Once Upon a Festival 2022 – a celebration of the written word
On the 3 & 4 November, the Immanuel Campus was transformed into an exciting and vibrant Festival atmosphere that celebrated literature for young people.
The second annual ‘Once Upon A Festival’ gave students the unique opportunity to participate in workshops and talks with 21 of Australia’s renowned authors and illustrators to build skills and experiences in many areas of literacy.
Student participation was a highlight:
- Over 1000 visiting students and teachers participated from 22 schools across Adelaide representing all sectors of our education system.
- 1300+ Immanuel students across the College and Primary School participated in talks and workshops on both days.
The Great Book Swap was a roaring success raising funds for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation by selling pre-loved books, and the Impress Writing Competition had a record number of entries this year – we will report on these further in the coming weeks.
The feedback we have received to date from our own students, visiting schools as well as the authors and illustrators, who delivered the talks and workshops, has been resoundingly positive.
Thank you to everyone who made the event possible – our incredible authors & illustrators, our sponsors, all of the teachers and students who participated, our student and parent volunteers, and of course the team at Immanuel.
There were so many people involved in this Festival and the success of the event was due to the seamless collaboration between the Immanuel Primary School and College and the numerous departments that make up such a large campus and event.
