Carla’s powerful first novel has been shortlisted for the 2026 CBCA Book of the Year Award for Older Readers—one of Australia’s most prestigious honours in children’s and young adult literature. This recognition celebrates the novel’s compelling storytelling and its ability to connect with teenage readers through thought-provoking themes and authentic voices.
At this year’s Festival, Carla will be sharing her journey from debut author to award-shortlisted writer, along with insights into her creative process, inspirations, and the themes behind her work. Her sessions promise to be especially valuable for aspiring writers, as well as readers interested in how stories come to life. In addition, Carla’s Write it Right workshops will engage participants in hands-on activities designed to build confidence and skill to create memorable characters, crafting immersive worlds for action and using language that keeps readers turning the page.
